The Winnipeg Jets have had a bit of a turbulent history, originally a World Hockey Association (WHA) team founded in 1971. The Jets were a strong performing team in WHA, though in 1979, the majority of WHA teams had folded while the Winnipeg Jets had remained going strong they had ended up being absorbed with many others into the NHL. An agreement had been reached and on April 28, 1996, the Winnipeg Jets had played their last game and were moved to Arizona where they had become the Phoenix Coyotes. Today’s current Winnipeg Jets were originally the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers were inducted into the NHL in 1999 and played until 2011. True North Sports & Entertainment had reached an agreement to buy Atlanta Thrashers, move them to Winnipeg to play at the MTS Centre as part of the Central Division of the Western Conference, and play in the 2011-2012 NHL season as Winnipeg Jets.

MTS Centre is an indoor sport arena and entertainment venue situated in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Canada. This one of the kind arena is the place where the Winnipeg Jets plays its homes games in the National Hockey League. MTS Centre is managed and operated by the True North Sports & Entertainment. When the 440,000 square feet (41,000 m2) building was built it cost $133.5 million CAD. The modern arena was officially opened to the public on November 16, 2004 to replace the recently demolished Winnipeg Arena. During hockey games, it has a seating capacity of 15,004 and during concerts its seating capacity is 16,345. Winnipeg has become more of a target location for upcoming concerts and shows as the MTS Centre has excellent seating and acoustics.
