World Wrestling Entertainment - WWE
The history of immensely popular wrestling federation, WWE goes back to 80's when it was known as Titan Sports Inc later in 1998 it was renamed World Wrestling Federation Inc. (WWF) and a year later was renamed World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE). It was founded by the son of Vincent J. McMahon, a key-figure of Capitol Wrestling Corporation Ltd. (CWC) in 1954, Vince K. McMahon along with his wife Linda McMahon in 1979 in Massachusetts. However, this was just the starting for junior McMahon had something else in his mind. He was on board to make WWF the premier wrestling event across the globe. With this motive in his mind he began his expansion to completely change the wrestling industry. His conquest started when he bought the Capitol Wrestling Corporation Ltd. from his father and seized complete control of the company. In an interview McMahon quoted: "In the old days, there were wrestling fiefdoms all over the country, each with its own lord in charge. Each little lord respected the rights of his neighbouring little lord. No takeovers or raids were allowed. There were maybe 30 of these tiny kingdoms in the U.S. and if I hadn't bought out my dad, there would still be 30 of them, fragmented and struggling. I, of course, had no allegiance to those little lords." This splendid long journey of WWE wrestling started with some great wrestling superstars like Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Junkyard Dog, Jimmy Snuka and Ricky Steamboat. With its increasing popularity WWE wrestling matches got the media coverage and started getting broadcast on television. Still the rematch of WWF champion Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant that took place on The Main Event of WrestleMania III, is the most watched wrestling match in the history of North America television with over 33 million views.
After seeing the success of the television broadcast event of WrestleMania, Vince McMahon created a number of WWE wrestling events like WWE Raw, WWE SmackDown, WWE NXT, WWE Superstars and WWE Main Event. All these shows greatly helped WWE in achieving what it is today. Now, let's see these events that are immensely popular these days among the masses.
WWE WrestleMania - This event is 'The Granddaddy of 'em all'. The WrestleMania is a professional wrestling event of WWE and is regarded as the flagship event for the fact it being the longest running professional wrestling event and the most successful one in the history. It has led to stardom of several wrestlers and celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Pamela Anderson, Alice Cooper and so on, they have either participated or made guest appearance to the event. The first WrestleMania event was staged in 1985, in New York City which was a tag-team between Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka against ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, ‘Mr Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff and ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton. This event has seen some of the greatest matches in the history of professional wrestling like the first time match between The Undertaker and Kane where The Undertaker won, the rivalry of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, ‘The Blue Blazer`Owen Hart defeating his elder brother Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart in a ladder match and list goes on. At WrestleMania, The Undertaker holds the record of 21 victories in a row which is still to be broken. Thus, because of its legendary existence the event is also nicknamed, "Showcase of the Immortals".
WWE Raw - Also known as the Monday Night Raw, is another professional wrestling that currently airs live on every Monday evenings. This event with its debut in 1993 marked a new ground for the showcase of wrestling events on television. Earlier wrestling events ever taped and then the broadcast was done however, Raw completely changed the original formula and the events were shot and aired live to the audience. In its early years Raw showcased some of the great talents like Bret Hart, Yokuzuna, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Doink the Clown who generally participated in WrestleMania but gradually this too became one of the leading WWE events next only to WrestleMania.
WWE Smackdown - Smackdown is the next leading show of WWE that started in 2005 as a Friday Night Show. However, with WWE undergoing brand expansion divided the WWE in terms of roster, storylines and authority figures. Now, Raw and Smackdown compete against each other for different WWE championship titles. Some of the prominent wrestlers of this event are John 'Bradshaw' Layfield. The Undertaker, Booker T, Chris Benoit, Christian, Muhammad Hassan, JBL, Batista and so on.
WWE Main Event - This is too a professional wrestling television event but this one is a complement to greater WWE wrestling events like Raw and Smackdown. This event debuted in 2012 as TV broadcast event however with its last show on April 2, 2014 the format of the show moved to an internet broadcast event. Unlike WWE wrestling events like WrestleMania, Raw and Smackdown, the Main Event features mid and low card wrestlers who can't cope up with the standards of Raw and Smackdown.
