Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs are an ice hockey team that was once located at Maple Leaf Gardens. In 1999 they moved to Air Canada Centre. In the beginning the team was named the Toronto St. Patricks and it was renamed the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club in 1926. They have 13 Stanley Cup wins to their credit. The last championship that they won was in 1967. Something else that should be credited to this team is that they are members of the “Original Six”, which is a term coined for the group of six teams in the NHL between 1942 and 1967. The “Original Six” teams are Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, and Chicago Black Hawks.

The team has undergone four major changes when it comes to their uniforms and fans have seemed to continually favor the past uniform designs that were utilized. The team mascot is a bear. In fact it is Carlton the Bear and his number is 60. This is because of where the team played for much of their history at 60 Carlton Street.

You will find it interesting that this team has two different practice rings that they utilize to get ready for their games. These are located at Air Canada Centre and at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence. This is actually operated by the local Lions Club.

Anyone that watches television or movies can tell you that the Maple Leafs are often mentioned in different films and shows. This has become a very popular name when it comes to popular culture. The fans will tell you that Toronto Maple Leafs tickets are some of the most difficult tickets for anyone to get. They are continually sold out and this is even true during the losing seasons. If you are looking for Air Canada tickets then it is wise to look at the Toronto Maple Leafs season schedule very early on and start planning your trip in advance. If not you may never get tickets.  You will also want to plan for the purchase of your tickets. This is necessary as this team has often ranked last when it comes to the affordability of the tickets. On the other hand, there are also a lot of people out there that are on the other side and that will tell you that they do not like this team. In fact, in 2002 they were identified as the most hated hockey team by Sports Illustrated.
