One of country music’s biggest stars, Tim McGraw has had a plethora of number one albums and hits that have dominated the country music charts for almost two decades. In that time he has evolved from one of the young country music stars that emerged in the 1990s to country music royalty and proud family man with his country singer wife Faith Hill.
Born in Delhi, Louisiana in 1967, McGraw was exposed to country music forma young age, when he would travel around with his step-father in his 18 wheeler truck listening to all of the classic country stars. He would alos perform at his local church as well as perform in many elementary school plays.
He did not even consider a professional career in music until he was enrolled in college. Enjoying the party lifestyle evolving good times and goo music, McGraw decided to try his luck, buying a guitar from a pawn shop. Not long after he would start performing in clubs which gave him a taste for something bigger, so he quit school and headed to Nashville.
Despite his relative newness to the music scene, it was not long until he found himself with a record deal with Curb Records, with who he released his debut self-titled album. It was met with luke-warm response at best after it’s released in 1993. It would not be until the release of his song ‘Indian Outlaw’ that things would change.
It received lots of radio play and would rise up the charts despite the controversy surrounding the content of the song. He would follow this up with his second record “Not a Moment Too Soon” which would go on to be number one in the country charts, cementing his place at the forefront of the genre.
Wasting no time his next album was just as successful, releasing All I Want in 1995 to rave reviews and sales. His personal life would take an upturn too, as he would get married to fellow country music singer Faith Hill in 1996. They would collaborate on a number of his following albums, and in 1999s ‘A Place in the Sun’ featured a Grammy award winning duet from the couple in ‘Just to Hear You Say that You Love Me’.
The following decade saw similar successes for McGraw, as his more evolved sound shows signs of maturity and depth that becoming husband and father can bring a man. He would also branch out into acting staring in a number of films such as 2007s The Kingdom.
With his recent albums all selling well and receiving plaudits from critics, McGraw has proven to be one of the most enduring and revered country singers of his generation. He continues to tour extensively, bringing his popular brand and style of country music to audiences around the world.
