Russell Peters is one of the most renowned comedians to come out of Canada, having seen a massive explosion in popularity over the last ten years that has firmly cemented his status as one of the top comics around. He broken many records for his huge sell out tours across the world, and despite not being as commercially recognised as some comedians, he still remains critically revered.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Peters came from a south Asian background, with his father originally coming from India. His ethnic background in a western culture helped mould a young Peteres, who sometimes face bullying because of this. He has since worked these experinces into his ceomedy routines, much of which focuses the humour behind different races and stereotypes that come from them.

He began his stand up career in 1989, primaryily playing shows in the Toronto area. Upon the advice if one of his biggest comedic influecnes in Georgeo Carlin, Peters begain to perfom as often as he could, helping him define his humour and established what elements of comedy he would bring to his perfromances.

He would remain popular in Canada over the years, but identifies a You Tube video of him performing in 2004 that really catapulted him into becoming one of the top comics in the world. Comdedy Now! Was a Canadian TV comedy show that was uploaded onto the video streaming website, and before long the clips of his routine went viral.

By 2006 he had completed his frist hour long stand up special, with Russell Peters: Outsourced. It would premier on Comedy Central, helping to further spread his name to an even larger audience. It was incredibly popular, especially in his native Canada, where sales of the album and DVD were high. This led to him becoming the first comedian to sell out a show at the Air Canada Centre in 2007, selling 18,000 tickets in just two days.

His second DVD special, Red, White and Brown was released in 2008, and was filmed at the famous Madison Square Garende Arena. Now firmly established ion the comedy scene, Peters would become more popular across the world, breaking records for sell out tours in both the UK and Australia.

His lvie tours in recetnt years such as The Green Card Tour and Notorious, have sold out in many venues, and have led to Peters becoming one of the highest earning comedians in the world. He is also recognised for performances outside of his stand up. He has hosted the Juno awards, even winning Gemini Awards for his performing duties
