The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the top performing teams playing in the National Hockey League. The Penguins are based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The team was founded in 1967. Currently they play in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference of the NHL. The team is considered as one of the first expansion teams during the league's original expansion from six to twelve teams. This popular NHL team formerly plays all their homes at the Civic Arena, more popularly known to Pittsburgh fans as "The Igloo", from the time of their inception through the end of the 2009–10 seasons. At the moment, the Pittsburgh Penguins play their homes games in their new arena, Consol Energy Center, at the start of the 2010–11 NHL season. Since they entered the NHL, the Penguins already won three Stanley Cup championships 1991, 1992, and 2009.

The Pittsburgh Penguins plays all their home games at the Consol Energy Center located at the Uptown area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The Consol Energy Center is one of the most famous sports arenas in the world. Aside from the Penguins, the Consol Energy Center is also the home of the Arena Football League's Pittsburgh Power, which began play in 2011. The modern arena was completed on August 1, 2010, and opened in time for the 2010–11 NHL season. The arena got its name from Consol Energy, which purchased the naming rights in December 2008.
