Mumford and Sons is a band that emerged in 2007 from West London and is formed of four British and American members, Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane. This alternative rock band is gaining great success and popularity worldwide, despite being in the music industry, for six years only. They have already 2 Grammy awards and 1 Juno award and a few strong hits from their two albums.
Mumford and Sons started in December 2007 and have maintained the same members of the band since. They started with an Extended Play “Love Your Ground” that took them performing in moderate venues across the United States and England. They used those tours to build support for their debut album “Sigh No More” that they released in the end of 2009. The Album gained most of its popularity in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand where it reached number 1 and England where it reached number 2 in the UK Album Chart and the Billboard 200 in the US. “Sigh No More” was nominated for many awards and won two of them in 2010 and 2011.
The band performed live at the Grammy ceremony in February 2011, which gained them a lot of attention worldwide and increased the popularity of some of their songs.
Their second album Babel, released in September 2012, was a huge success. It was the fastest selling album in the UK and the biggest selling-debut in the US. In its first week, it sold 150,000 copies in England and 600,000 in the US and over a million worldwide. In 2013, this album gained them two Grammy Awards.
This summer the band will be the headline act for the final night of the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts 2013, and on May 21 will be the start of a tour across Canada and the US that concludes in mid-September with 24 events. Despite their relatively short time in the music industry, Mumford and Sons has seen great success and realized huge achievements. It continues to grow in popularity, as the band prepares for its third album.
