Justin Randall Timberlake was grew up outside of Memphis Tennessee with his family and began his career at the age of eleven when he appeared on Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club, where he met many other stars while their careers were also in their infancy. Among those young stars was JC Chasez, with whom he would later join in the group N'Sync as one of the lead singers. One of his songs, "My Angel in Heaven," reportedly refers to his sister Laura, who died not long after birth.
N'Sync was active from 1995 to 2002, during which the group was celebrated around the world and would eventually become the world’s third best-selling boy band before the group went on hiatus and Timberlake released his first solo album, Justified. The album didn't sell as well as other N'Sync albums, but produced several singles and his solo career elicited several negative responses from Lance Bass, another former member of N'Sync. Around that time he made a deal with McDonalds resulting in the recording of the song, "I'm Lovin' it," leading to the popular "I'm Lovin' it" campaign. In the years before the N'Sync hiatus, Timberlake made his acting debut on Disney channel in a movie about a model falling in love, all while the excitement of the 'boy band' phase slowly faded out, likely adding to the group's decision to go on hiatus. Also in 2002, Timberlake ended his relationship with Britney Spears, who acted alongside him in The Mickey Mouse Club. Soon after he dated actress Cameron Diaz until 2006 after speculated rumors of their break up. There were rumors circulating his involvement with actress Scarlett Johansson after they shot the music video for "What Goes Around...Comes Around."
In 2004 Timberlake performed at the Superbowl with Janet Jackson, a reported source for inspiration in his younger years, and the night ended in a 'wardrobe malfunction' in which part of Janet Jackson's breast was exposed. He was intended to only remove part of the outfit, but another portion detached, resulting in the term, "wardrobe malfunction," which the media now uses regularly to refer to similar situations in the music industry. Timberlake issued an on-screen apology for any unintended indecent exposure in order to protect his nominations at the 2004 Grammy Awards. The night ended in two Grammy Awards, the first acceptance accompanied by his apology. At one point in his career, Timberlake was found to have vocal nodules but made a full recovery after surgery and rest.
After the incident at the Superbowl, Timberlake directed most of his energy into his acting career but continued to appear on tracks of several other artists, including The Black Eyed Peas and Snoop Dog. His second studio album, FutureSex/LoveSounds had a record amount of pre-orders on iTunes and sold 684,000 copies its first week. Guest voices on the album include Snoop Dog, Three 6 Mafia, and will.i.am. The album was intended to have a more grown up and sexier feel than any of his previous work while showing his interest in rock music at the time, which resulted in a lesser R&B vibe. Timberlake desired a more complex collection for his album, a far stretch from his boy band days. Timberlake performed the single SexyBack, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, at the opening of the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards and later at the Victoria's Secret fashion show. "My Love" and "What Goes Around...Comes Around" also reached the Billboard Hot 100.Timberlake's decision to focus on his music over his film career resulted in the song "Give it to Me," also from the album FutureSex/LoveSounds landing the top spot of the Hot 100. In 2008, Timberlake earned two more Grammys for "What Goes Around...Comes Around" and "Love Stoned/I Think She Knows."
The song "4 Minutes" was released in 2008 as a duet between Timberlake and Madonna from Madonna's album Hard Candy. The song was received well, topping charts internationally. Timberlake also collaborated with artists such as Timbaland, Ciara and Nelly Furtado. After the FutureSex/LoveSounds tour Timberlake returned to his film career once more with roles in The Love Guru, The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends with Benefits, and In Time. All the screen time resulted in his Sexiest Man titles from Teen People and Cosmopolitan, along with "Most Stylish Man in America" from GQ.
He returned to the music scene with a bang with the single "Suit and tie," featuring Jay-Z. He started work on his album The 20/20 Experience with no clear end but jumped right back into performances, including one the night before the Superbowl in 2013. His video for the song "Not a Bad Thing" features pictures and videos from his fans displaying all different kinds of love, including platonic, straight, gay, and familial with an intro thanking his fans for sharing their experiences with him and explaining that this video is for "you."
He dated his wife, Jessica Biel, from 2007 until their break in 2011, after which they reunited and were married in October of 2012. Also around this time Timberlake was featured on several late night talk shows, including Saturday Night Live where he was a guest for a total of five times, resulting in his unofficial single "Dick in a Box."
Justin Timberlake concert tours have a classy feel but an atmosphere often described as "infectious" by those in attendance. Everyone on stage manages to complete the event to professional performance standards while still allowing JT to be the main focus. Timberlake knows how to please a crowd, whether with his slick dance moves or by performing his classic hits fans have come to love so much. Not to mention, performing in a fancy jacket for 2 1/2 hours is no easy feat, especially considering the length of several of his hit songs. Timberlake has shown on several occasions that his fans are people he strives to please, through his videos, performances, and off camera actions, like when he took a Marine to the Marine Corps Ball, or sang Happy Birthday to an eight-year-old fan.
