Danforth Music Hall Information
Originally known as the "Allan's Danforth", was constructed as a movie theatre in 1919 by the Allan Theatre Chain. In 1923, the theatre chain was acquired by the Famous Players chain who changed the name to the "Century". It remained a first-run movie theatre until the late 1960s where it became a Greek language cinema known as the Titania Theatre from 1970 - 1978. The theatre was first known as the Music Hall when it started featuring live music acts in the late 1970s. In 2004, the Music Hall closed due to it needing large amounts of renovations and repair as years of neglect had left it in need of a face lift and numerous repairs. The new owners, in 2005 began restoring and renovating, which included installation of a new sound system and new seating. The theatre ran as a venue for live performances and even garnered itself an award as the "Performing Arts Centre of the year (under 1500 capacity)" at the 2008 Canadian Music Industry Awards. However, in 2010 the venue had financial woes and was ultimately seized by bailiffs. Currently, the Danforth Music Hall under its new ownership by Impresario Inc, maintains as an live performance venue hall.
